Cody Nelson

Cody Nelson is the current director of the Conservatory of the Fine Arts - Vicksburg as well as the Organist/Choirmaster at Church of the Holy Trinity.

Cody graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor’s of Music Education with a choral emphasis. There, he took part in a variety of performances throughout the world from Norway to New York City’s Carnegie Hall. He has performed in several musical and operas at USM and in conjunction with Opera Mississippi.

After graduating from USM, Cody moved to the city of Vicksburg to begin his career in education at the Academy of Innovation. During his 4 years there, his choirs went on to receive several superior rankings and sweepstakes awards at the annual choral State Performance Assessment. He was also incredibly honored to receive the 2024 Outstanding Young Music Educator Award at the state’s ACDA conference.

Despite his choral track record, Cody actually began his trek into music with the piano. He began taking lessons when he was five years old from his church’s pianist. His family was also a huge influence on his love for music, growing up on the coast of Mississippi surrounded by a family of bluegrass musicians. While he may not have followed in those particular footsteps, he is forever grateful for the impact that his family had.

When he is not working on music, Cody enjoys writing murder mystery parties, cooking, gardening, and playing video games!
